Let's take a look at the sustainability efforts in Costa Rica; it's more surprising than you think!
One reason why I wanted to create this blog was to explore how different parts of the world are tackling the climate crisis. I found a great opportunity to do this when I travelled to Costa Rica. I was truly impressed with the consistent dedication to protecting the environment all over the country. From Arenal to Guanacaste, I was able to find several sustainable efforts in restaurants, hotels, and parks. I am excited to share what I found!

Restaurants
The biggest worry I have when traveling is if there will be enough vegetarian and vegan options for me. However, I had no reason to worry in Costa Rica. Everywhere we went, there were at least 3 vegetarian/vegan options for me to choose from.

I was so pleasantly surprised to see how many options there were no matter where we were. There were cases where there were no vegan options. However, all we had to do was ask, and they could make anything vegan. Even in the rural/countryside areas, there were several vegan dishes.
The dishes were so delicious; I had a very happy tummy throughout this trip.
Hotels
It was obvious that the entire country was environmentally conscious and working towards protecting the environment. At every hotel, there were signs to turn off the lights when we left rooms and to limit our water usage.

I was so happy to see that there are countries that are making an effort to promote sustainable lifestyles and practices. Costa Rica uses simple yet effective tactics to further save our environment. Additionally, hotel buffets had trash, recycling, AND composting bins for waste. This really impressed me and gave me additional ideas for sustainable development.
Nature
On my trip to Costa Rica, we visited many natural parks and sites. I found out that 30% of Costa Rica's land are allocated for national parks, reserves, and wildlife refuges. This country dedicates a lot of resources and land to preserve and protect the environment.
Their waterfalls, hot springs, mountains, and trails are absolutely beautiful. It is so comforting to know that countries are still protecting their natural biodiversity and preventing people from harming it. We need more countries like Costa Rica that are actively working towards reversing some of the damages of pollution and climate change.
