HEY GUYS!
I'm extremely excited to start this journey with you. The goal of implementing an eco-friendly lifestyle can seem very overwhelming. However, people overlook the basics and how simple it really can be. One example of this is recycling! I can't stress enough, how easy and realistic it is to effectively recycle. And you might be thinking the same, but in many homes people don't separate their waste correctly. This leads to more waste being thrown in the trash :(
HOW DOES RECYCLING WORK?
What is Recyclable?
What is Not Recyclable?
Food or liquids( or food contaminated papers/plastics)
Plastics such as clothes hangers, toys, and grocery bags.
Styrofoam
Bubble wrap
Electronic cords
Dishes
Straws
Plastic cups
Plastic dish-ware
However, I urge you to check guidelines of what is recyclable in your area because it will be more detailed.
USEFUL TIPS TO ENSURE THAT YOU'RE RECYCLING CORRECTLY
One major issue with recycling properly, is that there aren't enough bins in one's household that are designated to recycle. Start by placing a recycling bin in each room in your house; this doesn't necessarily mean purchasing 5- 10 blue bins, but instead having a separate bins that you can designate for recycling!
If you don't know by heart what you can recycle, then I recommend you to print instructions on each bin.
Don't recycle plastic bags or place your recyclable materials them. This is because plastic bags get stuck in recycling processing equipment.
When recycling food contaminated bottles, jars, containers, and cans, please empty food remnants.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
I initially thought this task would be extremely simple and that it would be easy to implement. However, at first, I did not take recycling seriously. This led me to incorrectly disposing my waste. It took practice and focus, and eventually I got a hang of it! I really recommend taking time to read the labels on your containers and packaging before throwing them away. I also found myself recycling so much more when I placed a recycling bin in every room in my home. So, you should definitely try this out!
After I was able to make recycling my second nature, I had to supervise how others were handling their waste. Whether they were guests in our home or other family members, it was my responsibility to make sure people were recycling properly. Sometimes, it was out of my control to make sure everyone was recycling, but in places like my home, I was able to kindly direct people in how to recycle!
Recycling is not a daunting task. When you take it seriously and practice, this is a very simple task to accomplish!
